Time for an[other] entry that is heavy on pictures and lighter on text. My heart calls for more art, less matter. Kudos to Sam for taking all of these pictures AND enduring a lagging instant messenger to send them to me.

This homie was featured in NYC’s Graffiti Hall of Fame, but is now long painted over. I do consider this hall of fame a showcase of sublimation and artwork. What are your thoughts on graffiti?
So where shall I go next? How about some pictures of my adventures on Town Lake with Sam? I really enjoy canoeing and general water activity, despite the fact that I cannot float. Really. I can’t. As you can see, I totally live on the edge. If the canoe had suddenly capsized during this shot, I’d be a goner.

Here’s another shot featuring the Austin skyline (The Real World). It has occurred to me that Austin is far cleaner and lovelier than my next destination, but that’s another entry. I’m so grateful Sam brought out the Thoreau in me and introduced me to canoeing. I’m also grateful he was willing to do most of the paddling. Just in case you’re wondering, I’m not an amputee.

I really must stress here that I do not, in fact, love nature. Rather, I enjoy doing some outdoorsy things, like photographing flowers, splashing in waterfalls, crawling in caves, and beachcombing. I do not enjoy gardening, lawn maintenance, hunting, fishing, or Smoky the Bear. I eschew getting up early enough to watch the sun rise. I’ve been camping once and would love to go again, but know that it’s hard to get a wireless signal in a tent.
What I do love are animals, like this aggressive mother swan that Sam and I like to feed. We’ve been able to paddle out to the swan family’s cove and watch them groom, poop, and chase us out of their home. That’s always exciting.

“You can lead a horticulture…” And it can make you think. (Sigh. I think I am a little over-zealous with the Dorothy Parker allusions here, but I gots to do what I gots to do). These are gorgeous waterlilies from the UT turtle pond last summer. This goes back to my whole point about how I can enjoy nature while still cursing God when it’s time for me to help weed the flowerbed.
And there’s more. Observe: my head, Megan’s head, and so much beauty in between.

One of the things that disgusts me most about The Real World filming in Austin in that it only showcases Sixth Street and neglects all the really unique things the city has to offer. MTV has made Austin a College Anytown. I dislike that. If I had my way, the 10 Spot would show the housemates going places like the Greenbelt. And - this may be too much of a stretch - they’d be sober.

It’s pretty, and the creek leads to some waterfalls. Unfortunately, Sam and I were not dressed appropriately for our first and only visit. Check out the vintage Wonder Woman shirt. Oh, yeah…

Another thing I appreciate about nature is the occasional tree climb. That can be fun.

This wraps up another vivid pictorial extravaganza in just another blog. Wasn’t it nice not to see a thousand images of one sexed-up girl taking pictures of herself before heading out to a club where she will be sorely disappointed yet again? I think so. [Step down, brush off soapbox, tuck it under arm, head out].
