The calm before the classroom

There’s so much to say, but so little __________. Time, energy, motivation?

I’ve been told to stop by my school on Monday to POSSIBLY find out if I POSSIBLY have a classroom. I’m hoping that I’m not stuck with a wobbly cart on squeaky wheels to navigate between classes, but we’ll see. Getting a classroom would give me a purpose, as I have no real obligations in my life right now. I could potentially ride the subways all day long and explore the city, but I’m trying not to spend a lot of money. People watching is nice and free, but I don’t feel like doing it everywhere all by myself.

Today I went to Central Park West and found a place where I can forget I’m in a huge, anonymous urban mecca. I don’t mean that in the cliched, “it’s the city’s backyard” kind of way. I actually found a place with dense trees, waterfalls, birds everywhere. In a certain spot, the scream of sirens and bleat of persistently honking horns is silenced. If I turn a certain way, I cannot see the outline of a single high-rise building. I can’t find any benches or park signs or hot dog stands.

Don’t worry: I’m not planning to visit at night.

Chen and I went to the Museum of Arts and Design yesterday, along with brief stops to Zara, H&M, Strawberry, and Bloomingdale’s. She left for Flushing while I watched breakdancers deep under Times Square. I eventually checked out my first NYPL library books. NYC has an amazing public library system, but I didn’t need to tell you that. You can check out all the latest books, dvds, and cds. The library really caters to teens and educators. It has an unbelievable collection of young adult literature and poetry - more extensive than any bookstore I’ve visited. I already have a reserve list set up.

Anyhow, I also watched Raising Victor Vargas…and this entry is tedious, huh? I’m off to Soho Cupcake!

Not at all tedious. Keep in touch with nature and your friends.
