School of hard knocks

Let’s call this one “Down the Up Staircase,” shall we?

Today was another crazy day. At the end of it, I just shut up, stood in the doorway, and ignored my students. Nothing freaks them out more. If they won’t utilize the time left at the end of the day, I’ll make them wish they had with a pop quiz in Social Studies. Bwahahahaha!

Seriously, though, I felt sore when I woke up this morning. I was even more sore when this quietly psychotic student of mine we’ll call Kenneth Bailey (yes, his real name, watch out for this kid!) decided that he wanted to walk in and out of the room without permission. He’s the kind of person who utters vulgarities under his breath and can’t look anyone in the eyes. Anyhow, he left the room three times and had to be taken away to the school disciplinarians. He was briefly talked to, returned to class, and proceeded to visit my classroom multiple times today. The first time was when my students and I were in the computer lab. I didn’t lock the door, because all the other classes were in session and we were told we’d only be in the lab for twenty minutes. When we returned, the room was trashed. Someone had knocked over many desks and chairs in our classroom. Paper was everywhere. Later, I sat at my desk during my off-period. I was grading papers. I heard someone shuffling around outside my door and watched Kenneth walk in the classroom, suddenly realize I was in the room (my desk is angled in the corner of the room), startle, and then run away muttering. His plans to destroy were thwarted.

I’m convinced this kid has a fatal attraction for me or something. He’s such a weirdo. When he was dismissed from class earlier, he walked outside, came back in, made sure I was looking, and kicked the door as hard as he could.

I hope he broke a toe.
