I’d play before a statue of David Sedaris

I absolutely adore David Sedaris. He’s the dryly humorous and discreetly electrifying gay man I was meant to be best friends with. I love how I can think of mere phrases from Naked and laugh out loud. I love how I have heard him read his work in his phenomenally nasal and normal voice and thought, “Yes. This is THE man I will spend my life with. He seems so average, but his writing is saucy and smart and ‘boo ya!’ in its self-deprecation and irreverence.”

I could sing his praises for days.

I’ll read anything Sedaris recommends, because 1) we are best friends and 2) I trust him as a mentor and a person who appreciates good writing. Upon his recommendation, I read one of my favorite books - the jarring and sympathetic Random Family by Adrian Nicole LeBlanc.

So I just read Children Playing Before A Statue Of Hercules, the short story collection Sedaris edited. It’s fabulous. I had read a few of the writers and stories already, but I was also exposed to some new ones. Sedaris included “Revelation” by Flannery O’Connor. I love her, too, Dave! BFF!

I’ll admit this is getting more ridiculous with each word, so I’ll stop. Read CPBSH (pronounced “cup bush”).
