This person vs. you

“You fondle my trigger, then you blame my gun.”
-Fiona Apple

This person doesn’t
sneak about in
broad daylight
breaking into homes,
careful not to bump
into furniture but
not careful enough to
remove squeaky shoes.

This person hears you,
though you don’t even
say anything - that would
take confrontation, which
contrary to what you
espouse, scares you
sometimes. The
biggest bulk of
you shrinks away.
You know what you
say is wrong, twisted
out of context. You
needed someone to
beat down and
found it.

This person doesn’t need
a fight, especially with a
caricature.
This person was never so
wrong to think she was
above reproof, but never
so wrong to think you were,
either.
