The second first day

So today was the first day of school. The day was overall very smooth. I was off first period, taught second, had recess duty third, ate lunch, taught three more periods, and then led my advisory, which is essentially a homeroom class. Many kids seemed sweet; others were more prickly. I can tell who is probably going to have what issues. The day ran how a first day of school should run.

Still, it was infinitely different from the only other first day of school I’ve experienced as a teacher. Students knew where they were going and had materials. Teachers communicated throughout the day via email. The school leaders were patrolling the halls and keeping everything under control. I also got professionally photographed.

I have a good feeling about this year.
