While you are away, my heart comes undone,
Slowly unravels in a ball of yarn.
The devil collects it with a grin.
Our love, in a ball of yarn. He’ll never return it.
(When you come back we’ll have to make new love).
He’ll never return it.
(When you come back we’ll have to make new love).

I’ll copy to you the “go vote” reminder that I sent to my mother’s closest email correspondents, many of whom are right-wing evangelical voters (she’s not, by the way):
I always receive these forwarded emails from my mother and never respond. However, having this list gives me a great opportunity to remind everyone to vote on Tuesday. Exercise that right! (As they once said in the days of corrupt electoral practices - hmmmm, as in Florida during some recent presidential contests? - vote early and often!)
I’ll be casting my vote here in New York, where the electorate will finally have a chance to drive that paragon of mediocrity from office, George Pataki. Speaking of Georges . . . if you’re voting in Virginia, don’t forget to cast your vote against the neo-fascist, neo-confederate George Allen. I’m ashamed to acknowledge a connection to the Old Dominion when presented with Allen’s affronts to good common sense, to say nothing about his ignorance and racism. Indeed, if we’re lucky, the fascist Republican regime will be driven from power . . . a result predicated on the ability of voters to recognize the disaster that has befallen this country in the last six years. Particularly critical is the need for right-wing evangelicals to recognize that since the “Reagan Revolution” of the 1980s, they have been “played” by an opportunistic, mercenary Republican leadership that is neither God-fearing nor God-anointed. If the Republicans retain power, however, be prepared for two more years of equally disastrous results, punctuated by the sight of bodybags (carrying some of my fellow VMI graduates, by the way) bringing home the remains of a failed Bush/Cheney/Oil Corporation foreign policy.
