Explaining black comedy to my black students

Me: Yeah, like a black comedy.

Khoudia: A BLACK comedy?

Kenneth: With black people?

Me: No, it means… It’s like when something disturbing is funny. Something that’s normally not considered funny, like death or injury.

Brittany: Huh?

Me: Like in a comedy, “Ha, ha. You’re dead now.” Well, not exactly - bad example. Hmmm. It’s hard to explain.

Brittany: [laughing] You’re soooo weird.
