Reading and riding

subwayreaders

One of my favorite things about NYC is that people read more here. You need something to do on your way to work, and listening to your iPod gets old. I plow through at least 52 books a year with the help of the subway, where I spend about an hour a day.

Awhile back, The New York Times polled more than 8,000 New Yorkers about their subway reading. I meant to blog it then, but better late than never.

24 reading war and peace? wow - that’s the kind of book i’ve always meant to read..but never have. I always take one book from that category on holiday so when I finish all the easier ones, I’m forced to tackle it eventually!

Far too many people on the tube just read the freebie newspapers that are distributed twice a day. I’m currently reading a book I’m loving so much I almost actively hope for delays..

Sometimes I feel the same way. Or even miss my stop, because I get so caught up in a book. That doesn’t happen often, but when it does, I can’t even get annoyed. Hooray for good distractions!
