Because life was getting too relaxing

Despite my feeling like I’m living in elapsed time, the last few weeks have gone by as smoothly as an unperturbed sliding closet door. So I went and did what comes naturally to me - I put a bunch of paper clips and small, flexible footwear in the metaphorical closet track. You know, to keep things interesting.

Taking the beauty regimen outside

Despite my drying green face masque, I’m currently considering walking to the bodega at the end of the block for a cool beverage.

Commuting in flocks

Against the park rules, we are swinging at a playground near my apartment. I am the oldest; he the tallest. A phosphorescent mass suddenly moves above us. It’s magical, but not. I’d wager it’s a combination of birds and sunlight.

Save a Metrocard (Ride a New York Jew)

The bras hanging from the ceiling vibrated to the heartbeat of bass and the staccato cracks of the bartender’s bullhorn. “Redneck Woman” blared from the speaker where I sat, drinking a rum and coke and watching the bachelorette party girls shimmy.

Propositioned on the subway

Had he been at all handsome, I might describe the way he did it as predator-like, stealthy. But since he wasn’t, I’ll just tell you that he probably did some calculating before making his move.

The best thing about Saturday is it’s not Friday, and the best thing about Sunday is it’s not Monday. And the best thing about this weekend as a whole is that I went outside yesterday and didn’t wear a jacket.

Cat on a leash

I was walking along Central Park North yesterday when I did a double take.

“Is that what I think it is?”

My fruit stand man

I knew the fruit stand man and I had something special. Last week, when I ordered my daily small fruit salad (hold the cantaloupe, honeydew, and papaya) he held up his hand with a smile.

I look scary with my pants off

When I posted my outfit last week, I mentioned that I slipped in those darling black and white polka dot flats. No big deal. Any reader could have missed that detail, for it was ever so slight.

Snowy day

Whaddya know? It snowed last night and this morning. Consider my defrosting the freezer a portent.

I most appreciate living on Central Park West when it snows. I need to get up early tomorrow and walk around in the powder before it’s all gone.

This is the view from the window right behind my desk. The snow fell steadily, the flakes getting larger and larger, until lunchtime.
